Strengths of Uniport

Uniport plays an active and important role in Rotterdam’s port activities. Over the years, we have gained a reputation for our general flexibility and customer service. Thanks to the fact that Uniport is a medium-sized Container Terminal Operator, we can be flexible in terms of daily operations.

The terminals at Piers 5, 6 & 7 of the Waalhaven harbour are situated in the urbanised area of the Port of Rotterdam, a mere 13 miles from the North Sea. Our terminals are easily accessible from the open water in all weather conditions. The terminals offer safe port facilities, and are not restricted by any locks, bridges or tidal differences. Being as far inland as Piers 5, 6 & 7 of the Waalhaven harbour means that the European market is within arm’s reach. Uniport is therefore ideally situated to service the entire European market. We offer 100% service 24 hours per day/7 days per week.

Uniport offers reliable and professional services. Hundreds of well-trained and motivated own employees deliver tailor-made solutions around the clock. Our employees translate our customers’ instructions and wishes into efficient services. We offer short times for delivery and pick-up of containers, even during loading and discharging of Container Vessels. As an extra service for our customers, we have a Container Freight Station (CFS) for stuffing and stripping of containers at our terminal.

Uniport facilities have been designed to accommodate worldwide container vessels, feeder vessels and short sea vessels while meeting the required standards of performance. Uniport offers the necessary handling speed, flexibility, reliability and efficiency. All modalities for efficient European transport are available in the immediate vicinity:

• For feeding: feeder vessels and short sea vessels are partly our own customers; Uniport is their home terminal. Other feeder/short sea vessels regularly call at our terminal to load and/or discharge partial cargoes.
• For inland shipping: an integrated barge terminal. All inland shipping barges regularly call at our terminal.
• For rail transport: 2 rail tracks of 600 m each to receive block trains.
• For road transport: excellent services for trucks (approx. 60% of all containers are loaded on truck/discharged from truck in Rotterdam).
• Custom house authorities and a customs scan are located at our terminals.

In the Waalhaven area, where Uniport has its Container Terminal, there are many distribution centres, cold stores and auction facilities. A number of empty depots/repair shops can also be found in the Waalhaven area. One of the empty depots is even on the same Pier (Pier 6), while others are located within 2 miles of our Container Terminal.

Uniport offers Custom House services: TSP (temporary storage premises) and ECS (electronic clearing system, a new Electronic Data Interchange system, introduced by the Dutch custom house authorities and regulated by Brussels). Moreover, Uniport has obtained the AEO-status (Authorized Economic Operator) from the Dutch customs house authorities in February 2011. Custom house authorities and a customs scan are located at our terminal. Our operating department uses the Cosmos Software System and the latest ICT technologies. Tracking and tracing is possible through internet access around the clock. Furthermore, Uniport is connected to Portbase for general EDI services and custom house EDI services. Uniport has fully automated service desks for this purpose.
