Upgrade of Pier 5, 6 & 7

Big overhaul / renovation of terminals and equipment in 2008 and 2009. And further renovations in 2010.

After the acquisition of Pier 5 and 6 in the same basin as the existing Pier 7 at the Waalhaven, Rotterdam, it was decided to realise a big upgrade of terminal and equipment. This was necessary for long term planning and a container terminal of this size at its unique location in the city area of the Port of Rotterdam. The upgrading of the terminals contain:

A new landside cranerail for containerstackingcranes and a new landside cranerail for containergantrycranes were constructed.
For these new cranerails heavy concrete foundations were necessary.
Due to this renovation of cranerails the infrastructure of these terminals
had to be changed and upgraded. Almost the total container area was provided with new asphalt pavement.

The electric and power installations as well as the camera systems were renewed and made to the latest standards.

And totally 900 additional reefer units have been built, whereas an extra additional approx. 400 temporary reefer units can be installed within short time.

4 new container gantry cranes were installed at Pier 7 to replace the old cranes. And 3 Nelcon container gantry cranes and 9 container stacking cranes were upgraded with new software to the latest standards.

In 2010 a new technical department will be constructed on the terminal.
Furthermore a new state-of-the-art entrance, fully automatic, will be build.

And after 2010 Uniport will continue to make further investments in order to follow further developments in the container terminal industry.
